Perfect is the enemy of progress

I just realised today that I avoid doing my research work because I'm expecting to have a perfect journal paper ready in the morning to show to my supervisors. And that I go down a spiral when I dont have the perfect argument or the perfect evidence to express my point of view. I just realised that its the same as perfectionism. When I refocused to think in terms of progress, what progress can I make now towards my goal, say fill this cell in excel sheet with a value. That small action gave me the momentum to keep going.

So gung ho. If you are stuck in an activity, please stop thinking of the final result or outcome, and just ask yourself, what is a small thing I can do to make progress. No matter how small, keep stacking the smallest things. The momentum will come. Brain fog will lift.

Cheers.
